The ICDL establishes standards for everyone who uses a computer in either a professional or a personal capacity. It is a certificate that verifies your competence, declares your computer skills, and makes readily mobile within International businesses and across the Community and across the world. European and worldwide employers and job seekers all agree on the need for this standard definition of practical competence in Information Technology.
ICDL aims to:-

•  raise the level of IT knowledge and competency of all computer users;

•  improve productivity at work;

•  reduce IT support costs;

•  enable employers to invest more efficiently in IT; and

•  ensure that best practice and quality issues are understood and implemented.

The ICDL syllabus is designed to cover the key concepts of computing, its practical applications and their use in the workplace and society in general. It is broken down into seven modules, a test for each must be passed before the ICDL certificate is awarded. ICDL is open to anyone regardless of age, gender, education, experience or background.

The seven modules are:-
